Roam is a social connection application that helps people make plans and build genuine relationships around the places they love.

Roam came to us with a problem and a vision for creating a revolutionary product that would help millions of people connect with each other in a more natural and authentic way.

They knew they wanted to bring people together, but weren't experienced in building products. We joined them on their journey from 0 to 1, helping them dig deeper into their target market and discover key problems while testing and validating potential solutions for their product.
User Research & Discovery
Roam knew they had a huge opportunity to help people connect with others in a more authentic way, but they weren’t sure exactly how to do it. To identify their target audience, assess the key pain points within this market, and begin solution ideation, we conducted 15 user interviews with their core demographic.
Key Insights
Early professionals moving to new cities found it difficult to find new friends the most
Most people have defaulted to dating apps to try to meet new people in their area but People feel the most comfortable connecting with new people when they’re in a group or doing an activity.
Building relationships online feels transactional. It’s difficult to assess a person’s true personality and know what their intentions are.
Solution Ideation
Once we had a firm understanding of our audience, we worked with Roam to brainstorm feasible solutions that addressed the key problems of our early adopters. After prioritizing the most influential features, we began prototyping a product that could be shared with a large set of users for further feedback.
We shared our prototype with 75 survey recipients who gave us essential qualitative and qualitative feedback to use in our MVP development process. The feedback gave us valuable insight into what features people could actually see themselves using.
We reviewed each and every one of the responses, analyzed the data for themes, and worked with Roam to further narrow down the core feature set to be used in our MVP.
Results
From our initial research phase, we were able to narrow down Roam's unique value proposition and gain traction with an initial set of core users.

Our work with Roam isn’t over. As they’re growing, Roam has asked us to help them build out their product development process, develop a unique brand strategy, and prepare for a go-to-market launch. We are excited to continue working with them on their mission of bringing people, places, and plans together.
